Union City Community Center: Union City, GA

The Union City Community Center is an adaptive reuse of what was originally the Georgia Military College Atlanta Campus, built in the 1940’s. The building was later utilized as an elementary school before its closing in 1991. The community center consists of the renovation of this existing historic school, as well as a new ground up gymnasium with a new connector annex wing to connect the two. The enclosed gymnasium features a high school regulation sized wood floor basketball court and retractable bleacher seating for 250. The gym includes a fitness room, restrooms, lockers and vending area. Renovations to the existing school incorporate the addition of a 140 seat auditorium with a small stage area, a conference center and lounge area, senior activity room, multipurpose rooms and instructional classrooms, food preparation and serving area, and adjacent dining space.
