RT Jones Memorial Library: Canton, GA

As headquarters for Cherokee County’s Sequoyah Regional Library System, the R.T. Jones Memorial Library has an extensive collection to meet the educational, recreational and cultural needs of the Cherokee County community. Hogan provided construction management services to renovate over 30,000 square feet of space and add another 1,275 square feet while the library remained fully operational to patrons.

The project was divided into three phases to accomodate the occupied facility. The first phase addressed the administrative offices, circulation desk, and a large portion of the adult reading area. The second phase renovated the adult stacks and children’s area. The last phase addressed the remaining administrative areas including the meeting room. Work included adding new carpet, walls, a training lab available for staff and public use, a quiet room for patrons, a story time room and a teen center. The addition expanded the adult stacks and storage capacity. Hogan also moved the owner’s shelving and installed unique millwork to update the facility.

While some of the historical materials were moved to storage during construction, the library remained fully accessible during the normal operating hours. Hogan had extensive measures in place to ensure the safety of all library visitors during construction.
