Freeman’s Mill & Park: Dacula, Georgia

Freeman’s Mill Park is located on an 18 acre site along the Alcovy River in Gwinnett County. It is home to Freeman’s Mill built between 1868 and 1879 which has been placed on the National Registry of Historical Places.

Hogan Construction Group provided construction management services for the renovation and preservation of the historic Freeman’s Mill. The complex project involved using a structural lift to raise the foundation five feet above the 100-year floodplain, as well as the replacement of roof boards, siding, and windows. In addition to the building renovation, renovations were completed on the mill wheel. All renovations were completed while maintaining the historical integrity of structure.

While restoring the mill, Hogan completed the rest of the park – designed to incorporate the round mill theme throughout. The park features a playground, picnic pavilion, half-mile multi-purpose trail, as well as parking and restroom facilities.
