Fortson Library: Hampton, Georgia

Hogan Construction Group provided construction management services for this new library in Henry County, Georgia. Funded by a local SPLOST program, the 15,900 square foot facility replaces the old 5,000 square foot library and is the first new library located West of I-75 to serve the rapidly growing area. This new location will allow for better access and convenience for residents in this area.

The new building features 24 computers for public access and six for young adults, meeting rooms with capacity for 70 people, separate adult and children book and reading areas, and six children early literacy stations. The Fortson Library will offer residents a full schedule of programs, particularly for children, including a preschool program, summer reading program, and the baby lap sit program. A separate reading room resides off the main library and memorializes Karen Wheat, the interior designer that worked on the last four libraries built in Henry County.

Library construction of the 2.3 acre site took just under one year and started last summer. The total cost of the SPLOST III project was $2,384,264, more than $500,000 under the projected budget. The building was designed to complement Hampton’s Train Depot with classic red brick exterior and a brown metal roof. Carrying this theme throughout, accents of classic architectural details and the interior finishes create a traditional feel.
